Our client is a new force in consumer media and publishing and through acquisition publishes some of the best known consumer titles in the UK. The company combines a strong publishing heritage with digital platforms and entrepreneurial flair and with a staff of over 700 staff across the UK, they publish 34 websites and 50 magazines, with over 1 million subscribers, a brand reach of 11 million UK consumers.
The Role
Our client is looking for an experienced editor who is has worked in the horticultural field, to work on key practical sections of a leading magazine in the gardening sector. Typical duties will include: researching, commissioning and writing material for a ‘What To Do Now’ section; checking technical content, such as plant names, horticultural techniques and good practice; developing and managing good relationships with contributors, horticultural companies and PRs; and representing the magazine at consumer and trade events. This is a rare chance to join a friendly and hard-working team that is committed to bringing the best in gardening to the widest audience.
Your Profile
Ideally you will be a trained horticulturist, with comprehensive plant knowledge, as well as wide-ranging practical knowledge and abilities, and outstanding communication skills. You must be able to demonstrate relevant experience in sharing knowledge with a wide audience through the written word, with experience as a gardening journalist in either print or digital media. You will also have proven organisational skills and be able to work under pressure, manage deadlines and prioritise tasks accordingly. You will need to demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for developing your career in all aspects of gardening journalism and publishing, in print and digital formats.
