The client is seeking a talented Development Manager to lead the development of the organisation's market leading real-time trading & matching platform. The firm seeks an experienced professional that has prior expertise in working with a close-knit onshore development team within the derivatives, commodities or energy trading spaces who is capable of driving forward the development of the system. The ideal candidate will have managed directly a team of highly skilled C# Developers in a parallel environment in the creation & enhancement of a similar system. This opportunity will encompass all systems development activities & offers the successful Development Manager / Architect a high degree of autonomy in how this is achieved. The main purpose of the position is to ensure the system is of a high quality - i.e. well designed, meticulously coded, thoroughly tested, & clearly documented. The Development Manager will be expected to take on a critical role in oversight of the systems architecture going forward & will have ultimate responsibility for identification & justification of new initiatives & enhancements that will increase the organisation's competitive advantage.The main responsibilities & deliverables in this role include providing clear guidance on programming standards & development methodology to Developers & QA/Testing resources. The team is currently ~20 in total with the expectation of growing by 50% in the near term. The Development Manager will take on overall responsibility for ensuring the systems (including databases) are architected in a well structured, efficient, & robust. They will also be expected to ensure that all development and QA staff are given sufficient support & encouragement to enable them to excel & develop themselves professionally. The Development Manager will be required to communicate regularly with senior stakeholders, & senior user management in multiple geographies & appropriate third parties to ensure an up-to-date knowledge of business & technical developments. The successful applicant will need to be competent in producing accurate estimates of required effort, start & finish times for proposed developments & testing ensuring these timelines are adhered to. The role will require the Development Manager to provide regular reports on progress, & potential problems to Senior Management.The Development Manager will maintain a good level of hands-on skills - specifically they will to be capable of management of a team of highly skilled developers. They should have well developed leaderships skills & be capable of coaching / mentoring the team through difficult areas of code / architectural decisions. The technologies used by the team include Real-time multi-threaded development with C# / .Net (3.5 / 4), Winforms & SQL Server 2005 / 2008 so the successful development manager will need to prove his/her expertise with these as well as working with layered software architecture, OOD, design patterns & data structures. The organisation is increasingly moving to Agile so experience of full life development with the methodology is key. Experience with Java and/or C++ is advantageous. In terms of business knowledge - this Development Manager / Architect MUST have deep knowledge of as many of the following as possible: OTC derivatives, Exchange traded derivatives, commodities, energy trading.
Salary & Benefits
