JOB PURPOSEThe Portfolio Manager (Assessment) is responsible for:
- Coordination and communication of the Assessment portfolio of project work so that all projects and work streams meet their respective goals and the businesses delivery is realised. Therein, supporting the overall drive and delivery of the businesses strategic plan.
- Ensuring the requirements of the operational design are reflected in relevant IT application projects and providing the expertise to help guide the right decisions and direction.
- Monitoring costs and timelines of all projects and work streams to ensure resources are efficiently used and delivery expectations are met, maximising capacity and capability for the Assessment projects.
- To act as a focal point for project communication internally for the Head of Assessment Innovation & Design, Head of Schools Delivery and Chief Assessment Officer.
Assists with the planning of projects to achieve the Assessment's strategic direction and business objectives.
DIMENSIONS Relationship management of multiple stakeholders at all levels across all of the businesses global centres and with external consultants. Develop project portfolio plans that align to the Assessment Divisions goals and objectives, over a 1 - 5 year span.
Deliver a portfolio management service to the Assessment Division that provides a clear framework, drives quality through set standards and allows the delivery of Assessment Division projects and programmes.
Contribute as a member of the Project Office team to the strategy, policies, management and promotion of the Project Office and Project Management services so that the businesses Project Framework is implemented
Manage the prioritized portfolio of Assessment Division projects to ensure that informed decisions can be made on progression of projects in the portfolio
Manage the work stream by making plans for up to five years ahead to ensure that work is efficiently, accurately and effectively undertaken within budget, time and quality standards.
Management of portfolio budget by contributing to the budget planning process and by authorizing appropriate expenditure in order to ensure that the Assessment Division achieves value for money within budget.
Maintain and develop a high level of industry related knowledge and organizational developments to ensure that opportunities relevant to the business are identified, researched and applied.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
Degree level of education or equivalent
Recognised programme or portfolio management qualification (e.g. MSP Practitioner)
Recognised risk management qualification (e.g. MoR Practitioner)
Recognised professional certification in project management e.g. PMP, APMP
In-depth knowledge of PMBOK, APMP, PRINCE2 or a similar project methodology
Experience
10 progressive years (desirable) in relevant project management environment
Experience leading and managing a portfolio of projects. Significant experience and knowledge of managing large projects in a variety of contexts.
Experienced people manager, with leadership qualities, with global teams across different time zones
Skills & knowledge
Strong Project Management skills with a proven track record of delivering successful and complex projects, programmes and portfolio
A detailed understanding of the businesses strategic goals, objectives and organization
Business focus and understanding; customer-focused perspective
Planning, developing and monitoring budgets
International mindset
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a team, promoting group motivation and discipline

Willing to assume responsibility and ownership for making decisions (or recommendations for decisions) related to approving, rejecting, and discontinuing projects
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Highly proficient written, oral, negotiation, planning and presentation skills; able to create and deliver executive-level summary reports and presentations
Ability to use standard PC software and Microsoft Project (or similar)
