The Self Storage Association is the Trade Association for the self storage industry in the UK. Its role is to represent, support and increase the membership comprising both self storage companies and the industry suppliers.
The successful candidate will be tasked with managing and promoting the Association, ensuring that the strategic direction of the Association is communicated, measured and delivered. The Association’s strategic direction will be set by the Board and will be delivered through the proactive management of a small team based at the Head Office in Nantwich.
One of the central tasks will be the representation and promotion of the Association and the Self Storage industry to outside organisations including, lobbying public bodies and the management of media issues. This will also include representing of the industry in both technical and non-technical areas.
The position will also include identifying and developing new business opportunities for the Association driving up revenue through the use of publications, sponsorship, advertising, exhibitions, training, certification and consultancy.
The ideal candidate will have an in depth knowledge and experience of the self storage industry. The individual will be commercially driven and both customer and delivery focused. They will have extensive experience (minimum 5 years ) in running associations and/or not for profit organisations on both a national and international basis. Ideally applicants will have tertiary business qualifications and MBA graduates would be highly regarded. As well, extensive experience of self storage is an essential requirement both from an operator and supplier perspective.
They will be adept at working with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally. Credibility and gravitas are critical. The role demands the ability to work within a multi-site environment representing suppliers and operators from across the UK.
They will also require the skill set to develop an internal and external communication policy. This will include the management and growth of the trade magazine and lead the development; maintenance and upkeep of the Association website. They will also create, develop and manage a social media strategy on an on-going basis.
A good understanding of security issues affecting the industry would be a significant advantage as well as a working knowledge of issues currently affecting the industry such as the change in tax regime.
The Self Storage Association is located in Nantwich, Cheshire. The role will be essentially office based.
