Due to our long running success as the official School Supply service for both Lambeth and Lewisham Borough Councils, we currently need more teachers and support staff to help us meet the increasing demands of schools in Southwark who have been recommended to us by their neighbouring boroughs.
The School: We are currently looking for a Team Teach trained Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a KS1 child on behalf of a community primary school in Southwark. The school has recently been injected with new funding and resources in order to support the high number of statemented pupils which have been joining them due to their reputation in the area for having excellent success rates at improving behaviour and increasing attainment. The school staff work together to create a strong support network, and are looking for a Team Teach trained TA to become part of this support network and offer a new style of de-escalation techniques.
The Children: Southwark is a highly diverse area, and the school has pupils from a wide variety of cultural and religious backgrounds. This has led to a range of ability levels, as well as EAL needs, however the school has a strong support network of specialist TAs and other resources to assist the more severe needs. They have many pupils who display challenging behaviour due to their varying home lives, so the ideal candidate will have creative and practical methods of classroom management in conjunction with their Team Teach skills. The school promotes teamwork amongst pupils as well as staff, and teachers and TAs are encouraged to keep children in whole class settings to improve their social skills through group based activities. The role requires the TA to work on a 1:1 basis with a newly enrolled KS1 pupil to assist them develop these interaction skills, as well as be on hand to recognise their triggers and help them start to devise their own de-escalation techniques to help them settle into, and feel at ease in the class environment.
The Job: The ideal candidate will:
- Hold an in date Team Teach qualification.
- Be able to start asap.
- Have experience working with a KS1 pupil.
- Have relevant up to date experience in UK schools.
- Preferably have knowledge of Phonics Assessments and KS1 SATs, but this is not essential.
- Ensure effective classroom management in line with schools' behaviour policies.
- Treat every assignment as if it is a permanent role, injecting a sense of purpose into the classroom ad helping the schools continue to have a positive impact on pupils' lives to the best of your ability.
- Provide references to cover the last 12months, as well as be willing to complete a CRB/DBS check alongside other safeguarding checks and requirements.
