The Organisation:

The Green Recruitment Company is representing an environmental consultancy company in their search for a Senior/Principal level Ecologist based in Glasgow. The company provide Environmental Consultancy services to the built environment including geotechnics, land remediation and construction. The Senior/Principal Ecologist will be based in the growing Glaswegian office with excellent opportunities for career progression with continued industry leading training.

The Role:

Recent growth has resulted in new hiring at the company including for a Senior/Principal Ecologist who has specialisms in Botany. The successful candidate will join a newly-expanded team with line management responsibilities. The salary and precise job specification will be dependent on experience and as such a wide range of candidates are encouraged to apply. Strong ecological knowledge of Scottish Fauna is essential and experience of securing European protected species (EPS) licenses will be a significant advantage.

Person Specification:

The Senior/Principal Ecologist will need to have;
• First degree in ecology/biology-based subject
• Post-Graduate degree/specialism in a relevant subject
• Current full and clean UK driving license and own vehicle
• Strong ecological knowledge of Scottish flora
• A technical specialism such as lower plants;
• Up to date knowledge of and familiarity with survey guidance for plants and vegetation
• Extensive field experience of Phase 1 and 2 Habitat Surveys and the National Vegetation Classification (NVC)
• Ideally, membership of IEEM
• Report writing skills
• Project management skills
• A working knowledge of relevant UK and EU legislation and policy
• At least 5 years’ similar work experience
• Strong knowledge of UK fauna and flora
• Licensed to work with legally protected species, particularly bats and great crested newts
• Experience of applying for and securing EPS licenses
• Knowledge of EIA/AA processes
