The Abbeyfield Society is a provider of care, support and housing for older people, and always aim to see the whole person and to treat each resident as an individual. It has an 8,000 strong volunteer community who offer companionship to our 7,000 residents. Their contributions range from activities such as chatting with residents or taking them to medical appointments through to getting involved with bigger projects like planning fundraising events for the house. They come from wide-ranging backgrounds but have one fundamental thing in common – a desire to help and support older people to live a good life.
You will be actively involved with developing and strengthening Abbeyfield's volunteer base in Hampshire. As volunteers are integral to every house and care home, you will play a key role in ensuring the long term sustainability of a number of houses and care homes. Having the opportunity to practically apply your volunteer management or marketing techniques, you will help to raise the profile of a wonderful facility and service.
Duties and responsibilities to include the following:
- Attend cluster meetings in your area to grasp an understanding of:
- Current volunteer activity
- Success of local volunteer recruitment campaigns
- Issues that houses or care homes may have regarding volunteers
Support those who are struggling to recruit new volunteers to create a volunteer recruitment action plan Suggest creative ways to raise awareness of our volunteer schemes in the local community Communicate news about volunteer activity and management in your area to the national Volunteer Services Manager Contribute to the strategic direction of the Abbeyfield volunteer movement by attending quarterly Volunteer Steering Group meetings
The charity is looking for someone with a background in Volunteer Management, Marketing and/or recruitment although we would still be keen to hear from individuals who possess great interpersonal skills
As a skills-based volunteer working with a cluster of houses in Hampshire, you will ideally be located in Hampshire and will be willing to travel on occasions to the National Office in Hertfordshire. Your time will be divided between working at home and attending meetings with frontline managers and societies in Hampshire.
