This organisation is looking for a Transport Planner for a short-term contract role you will be expected to already have experience of maintaining and downloading automatic traffic counters but will receive help to show you the locations and procedures they use.

Main Duties:

* To develop and maintain a current and historic database of traffic movements in the authority area.
* To develop remote monitoring and retrieval systems for automatic traffic count sites.
* To prepare and analyse the data used for traffic related reports and for monitoring targets in relation to the Council's duties under the Road Traffic Reduction Act and the B&NES Local Transport Plan.
* To manage the revenue budget for data survey and monitoring.
* To be responsible for the collection and retrieval of data in all forms including assimilation into data storage media and the manipulation, tabulation, analysis and reporting of data using general and specialist software systems.
* To design, co-ordinate and organise manual traffic, parking, pedestrian and public interview surveys related to transport.
* To analyse and present in report form the collected data to satisfy Public Inquiry and other Council requirements, external organisations and the current DETR link based survey contract.
* To develop and maintain a comprehensive permanent automatic traffic counting system to satisfy Council requirements resulting from Government legislation, the Joint Local Transport Plan and the Local Area Agreement.
* To prepare an annual report of surveys on Traffic and Transportation trends in Bath and North East Somerset for the purposes of monitoring transportation planning objectives and policy.
* To be responsible for the carrying out of ad hoc surveys of vehicle speed, volume and classification using temporary systems of surface detectors and hand held radar.
* To be responsible for the selection, planning, ordering and supervision of contracts with consultancy companies and contractors in the installation of permanent and temporary traffic counting sites.
* To be responsible for the testing, ordering and maintenance of traffic equipment to cover the authority's data needs, ensuring value for money in purchases and the operation of the authority's workshop storage facilities.

You should match the following criteria:

* Extensive experience of relevant professional work involving the organisation and management of transport data systems.
* Educated to Degree level with preferably a post graduate qualification in transportation planning.
* Experience of IT and Traffic Data Systems including the retrieval of data in all forms assimilation into storage media, manipulation tabulation, and analysis and reporting.
* Experience in the design and implementation of ad hoc surveys and supply of data to internal and external clients.
* Experience in the deployment of automatic traffic data and speed monitoring equipment in the field including its development and maintenance.
* Current driving licence.
