How can you expect to spend your day?
The company is looking for an intern to join their Trade Finance Team. This position will be to directly support the Head of Sales, learning how to achieve income growth in the UK mid-market lending sector. Specifically the applicant will assist in and learn about:
•The preparation of credit applications for trade finance facilities up to £500k to a UK importer T/O £500k - £30m.
•Learn how to prepare credit proposals for subsequent trades within approved facility.
•Assist in streamlining the credit approval process.
•Development of credit analyst forecast tool, give feedback on effectiveness for target segment.
•Guidance on their exit strategy ensuring they are compliant with credit insurance governance
•Evaluating the effectiveness of their proposed ‘Credit Pack’ - this will include; citings paper, Corporate Executive summary, Credit Committee report including minutes, sanction/authorisation signature sheet, financial analysis template including headroom forecast and income calculation.
•Assist in the analysis of financial plans and budgets (including profit and loss viability and cash flow) as part of business case proposals.
•Assist in the preparation of written new business proposals and plans for presentation at Credit Committee/Board level.
•To conduct market and company research to assist in origination and funding appraisal
The ideal intern’s personality and qualifications:
•This ideal candidate would be a recent graduate in a relevant subject such as finance, accounting, economics, business or mathematics.
•Someone who is part or fully ACCA or CIMA qualified would be ideal.
•You should be interested in learning about asset-based lending, accounting and finance.
•An existing knowledge and understanding trade finance, receivables finance and asset-based lending is desirable but not essential.
•You’re a customer orientated individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills at a professional level.
•A team player with a willingness to pitch in!
•You’re organised, with a thorough work approach and a sense of fun.
•Strong MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills are essential. MS Project and MS Visio would also be an advantage but not essential.
•Ideally you’ll have excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to quickly learn how to use new tools/software used in the finance sector.
•Personality wise, the company want someone upbeat; an enthusiastic presence to others, even when under pressure, someone who responds assertively and constructively to adverse points of view.
•This role is client facing and thus the intern will need to be personable with good communication skills but also needs to be very good at gathering information. The intern will be liaising with clients/financial controllers and so will need to gather all the relevant information in order for the Senior Business Development Manager to compile credit reports.
•Attention to detail, tenacity and the ability to work in a team are key requirements.
