The School

The School offers a broad and balanced curriculum that caters for individual needs and talents. By engaging pupils in their education, we help them develop skills for lifelong learning. Whilst the School follows a curriculum that is grounded in the expectation of pupils gaining important mathematical, literacy and scientific skills, they also offer flexibility and choice. Students receive a thorough grounding in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and ICT, spending approximately half their week in these subjects. Our Year 7 Curriculum also includes an innovative programme called Learning Skills which gives the students the opportunity to develop the skills required for the 21st Century. There is also a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, and students at risk of not reaching the expected levels will be given additional support.

All students follow courses in English, Mathematics, Science, PE and ICT. They also have a choice of 3 option subjects from the following:
ICT, Dance, Health & Social Care, PE, Textiles, Product Design, Drama, Engineering, Food Technology, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Art, Business Studies, Music, Religious Education, Film Studies and Sociology.

Students can gain GCSE or Vocational qualifications in the above courses and with the combination of French/Spanish and History/Geography they can achieve the English Baccalaureate qualification.

Academic development is tracked through the setting of targets and regular assessment. We work closely with parents to develop personalised learning programmes and provide regular progress updates through our online reporting system and Parents' Evenings.
