People in developing countries often have so little that animals become second priority, and can come under threat from communities who fear them or for whom they present a nuisance. The projects we work with have a variety of aims including taking sick animals into care, educating communities about how to share the land safely with these animals and running release programmes for animals ready to return to the wild. These programmes are closely researched, monitored and the results are evaluated in order to improve processes and to hopefully prevent the extinction of some of the world’s most amazing creatures.
We have many different projects working with a variety of animals from primates, big 5 African game animals, sharks, lions, penguins, jaguars and many more, all of which would be fantastic experience for those wishing to pursue a career in animal research or care. You can work in the following countries: Costa Rica, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Zambia and Thailand.
Not all projects have specific qualification requirements, however some will require experience or study background in veterinary medicine or related fields. However others you can join just with a love for animals, but your hands on experience will be different to those who are trained. Project fees include; accommodation, airport pick-ups, food, orientation and 24h support.
