The school, the child:
This is an above average-sized primary school. Most pupils are from White British backgrounds, although a very small minority of pupils have a wide range of minority ethnic backgrounds or speak English as an additional language. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, at 38%, is high. Around a third of the pupils have identified special educational needs and/or disabilities. That is well above the national average, although the proportion of pupils with a statement of special educational needs is broadly average. The numbers of pupils joining and leaving the school during each school year has been well-above average over time. Recently, the school has had very large numbers of new pupils joining, particularly in older year groups. A children?s centre adjoins the school under independent management and is subject to a separate inspection. The school has a number of awards including Healthy Schools status and the Extended School Award.
