Systems Administrator (Solaris, Linux) - £350p/d - £450 p/d - London

Our client, a leading name in new media requires a Systems Administrator (Solaris v10, Linux, monitoring tools) to work on platform re-design, ongoing & new project work, and hands on support.

• Ownership and support of core website infrastructure
• Ensure designs and systems are configured to achieve maximum uptime, performance and availability
• Maintain infrastructure ensuring it is fit for purpose for current and future requirements.
• Always automate where possible.
• Proactive monitoring, alerting, capacity planning and trending of infrastructure.
• Foster good working relationships with Application Support and Development teams and assisting these teams with their goals.
• Communicating changes and issues within the technical team.
• Maintain good working relationships with our suppliers
• Create and always maintain documentation and diagrams
• Monitor, advise and implement IT security policies
• Maximise system performance and availability
• Proactive, diligent and enthusiastic
• Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and technology
• Willingness and patience to help, advise and mentor staff with varied technical skills sets and to share knowledge
• A good natural tendency to problem solving with the ability to think outside the box to find solutions
• Enjoys technology and keeps pace with emerging technology and trends
• Remaining calm and concise when faced with multiple high priority issues and problems
• Ability to multitask and prioritise accordingly
• Effective communicator at all levels within the company
• Self-motivated and able to encourage and motivate others

• At least 5 years in a systems engineering support capacity in a digital/web industry.
• Linux OS (RedHat / Ubuntu), Solaris (10) , SmartOS (Joyent) ,Shell scripting, Kickstart build automation.
• Puppet automation
• Cloud experience - Joyent, AWS, Rackspace etc
• Monitoring and Instrumentation (Zabbix, Graphite)
• Any programming experience/exposure, ideally with Perl or Ruby.
• Networking skills - Good understanding & diagnostics (Firewall, Load balancing, DNS, LDAP, VLAN tagging, LACP, Cloud VPN/VPC)
• Storage skills - NFS, iSCSI, NAS, SAN.

• Product knowledge - Zeus/Stingray, Jira, , Git , Teamcity , Jenkins
• Messages queues (Active/Rabbit MQ
• LXC and Docker
• DB technologies - Redis, Elastic Search, Oracle/MySql DB , Perconna
• Javascript, CSS, JSON and XML.
• Solaris (ZFS, Zones, Jumpstart, SMF)
• Java/Ruby webservers
