The Job:
Due to a maternity leave we have a requirement for a Sociology teacher for a south Manchester high school for October half term to Christmas
The timetable comprises of Sociology at Key Stage 4 and 5 (AQA specification)and RE, Citizenship and PSHE at Key Stage 3.
The ideal candidate will be a sociology specialist keen to use their skills and expertise to continue the success of the social sciences department. Sociology is a very popular option at GCSE and A level with on average 20% of year 13 students going on to study sociology or related subjects at university.
Applicants must hold Qualified Teacher status or be an NQT. Applications from FE qualified lecturers with no experience of Key Stage 3 teaching will not be considered.

The School:
An oversubscribed mixed 11-18 community school with a thriving sixth form college that has a proven record of academic excellence. The main school accommodates 1500 pupils in years 7 to 11, with 400 Sixth Form students. The social sciences department was graded as 'Good' at it's last Ofsted with students achieving outstanding results in the sixth form. Comprising of 11 teachers there is opportunity for this role to become permanent as the department continues to expand.

The Child:
Behaviour in sociology classes is excellent with highly motivated students working hard to produce excellent results. This is a direct result of the department creating a student centred faculty with a positive regard for it's learners, with meticulously planned detailed lessons that ensure all students are challenged and motivated. The department also offers individual support and extra revision and an 'open door' policy to individual learning.
PSHE and citizenship is compulsory for all students from year 7 through to 13 and provides an opportunity for pastoral care and social cohesion within the school. The opportunity to run fund-raising events and make links with vulnerable members of the wider community are available in the study of citizenship and supported and encouraged by the staff and study body.
