Unseasonable weather set to persist throughout weekend, forecasters say

Britons hoping for an easing of the unseasonable weather are set to be disappointed, with chilly temperatures, showers and even thunderstorms set to hit the UK this weekend.

Despite the passing of the worst of Storm Miguel, which killed three boat crew off the French coast on Friday, forecasters said the storm will continue to have an impact throughout Saturday.

Much of the country will wake up to a grey, soggy morning which will feel especially chilly due to “fairly fresh winds and rain”, the Met Office said.

That band of rain over Wales and central and northern England is set to weaken as it moves further north throughout the day.

“This will allow much drier and brighter conditions to move in from the southwest, so that by this evening much of Wales, the Midlands and southern England will be dry with some bright and sunny spells and a few scattered showers,” forecaster Simon Partridge told The Independent.

Highs of 19C could be expected in the southeast or even the far north of Scotland, though generally temperatures throughout the weekend would be below the average for this time of year.

Sunday however, will be a “much different story”, Mr Partridge said, with many waking up to a sunny morning, particularly in northeast England and Scotland.

Although much of Britain is likely to see scattered showers going into the afternoon – with even the “odd rumble of thunder” in the south – highs of 20C combined with lighter winds and more sunshine would make it feel significantly warmer than Saturday.

Next week is expected to see more wet weather, the Met Office said, with temperatures continuing to hover below average for this time of year.
