Those are just some of the unusual delicacies featured on Donald Trump’s “four-day feast” in Japan, as the president dined with state leaders and the new Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, according to the food magazine Eater.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reportedly treated Mr Trump to one of the president’s favourite Western meals during his official visit, as the two world leaders chowed down on American cheeseburgers after a 16-hole game of golf at the Mobara Country Club.

Mr Trump previously enjoyed American beef during his last trip to Japan in 2017, when the prime minister ensured he could enjoy a burger after playing golf by having a meal sent to the Kasumigaseki Country Club from a popular food chain called Minato’s Burger Shack, where all of the burgers are made with beef procured from the US.

The president embarked on the trip during the extended holiday weekend to discuss trade negotiations with the Japanese prime minister, among other international concerns like the North Korean nuclear threat.

While Mr Trump was seemingly well-fed throughout the stay, his controversial remarks pertaining to North Korea immediately sparked backlash overseas, as he appeared to deny reports from his own national security adviser that Pyongyang tested ballistic missiles in recent weeks.

The president referred to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un as a “very smart man” during a press conference with the Japanese prime minister on Monday, flying in the face of US intelligence by supporting the regime’s claims that it had not actually conducted a missiles test in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

“My people think it could have been a violation,” Mr Trump said. “I view it differently.”

He also sided with the dictator over former Vice President Joe Biden, who the North has recently labelled a “fool of low IQ” after he called Mr Kim a tyrant.

Mr Trump and Melania Trump also dined with Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Mask, partaking in a six-court banquet including beef consommé, turbot a la meunière, côte de boeuf and Mount Fuji-shaped ice cream, Eater reported.

The first lady also reportedly accompanied Mr Trump and the Japanese prime minister and his wife to a meal of grilled chicken, wagyu beef, baked potatoes and salad at a popular restaurant in Tokyo’s Roppongi district.
