Miley Cyrus has spoken out after coming under fire for saying that women “don’t have to be gay” because “there are good men out there”.
On Sunday, the “Wrecking Ball” singer, who has previously described herself as pansexual , did an Instagram Live with her boyfriend, musician Cody Simpson, in which she urged single women not to “give up” on men.
“There are good men out there, guys, don’t give up. You don’t have to be gay, there are good people with d***s out there, you’ve just got to find them,” Cyrus said.
“You’ve got to find a d*** that’s not a d***, you know? I always thought I had to be gay, because I thought all guys were evil, but it’s not true. There are good people out there that just happen to have dicks. I’ve only ever met one, and he’s on this live.”
The comments provoked a backlash, with people pointing out that the singer was perpetuating the harmful view that women in the LGBT+ community just haven’t met “the right guy”.

Now, Cyrus has clarified her comments. “I was talking s*** about sucky guys,” she wrote in a note posted on Twitter and Instagram on Monday.
“But let me be clear, YOU don’t CHOOSE your sexuality,” the 26-year-old continued. “You are born as you are. It has always been my priority to protect the LGBTQ community I am part of.”
Cyrus split up from her husband, actor Liam Hemsworth , in August after eight months of marriage.
The couple had been together on and off for almost a decade, having met in 2010 while co-starring in romantic drama The Last Song .
