Transfer deadline day summer 2019: The deals done so far

Christian Eriksen is still holding out for a move to Real Madrid and is willing to wait a year, ending Manchester United’s chances of signing the playmaker.

With just one year left on the 27-year-old’s contract, Tottenham Hotspur would prefer to sell now. As such, the situation meant the Dane was at least willing to consider any offer from Old Trafford.

United were given little encouragement as talks progressed, though, and those close to the player insist any move at this point would be made for career and lifestyle reasons.

The 27-year-old is said to want a change from England, with Spain – and specifically Real Madrid – his primary choice.

Madrid have cooled their own interest in the Dane after an expensive summer, but he is conscious that his signing could be much more attractive on a free next summer and is not panicked.

Spurs have had a new offer on the table for the 27-year-old, but would now prefer to move him on and rebuild – primarily through the signing of Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes or Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino also has reservations about keeping players who enter the last year of their contract.
