Golden Globes 2019: Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg 'eject' Jim Carrey in opening monologue

Golden Globes presenters Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg impressed with a joke-filled opening monologue during which they lovingly poked fun at several of this year’s nominees.

The highlight of their monologue arrived during a moment that saw them comedically “eject” Jim Carrey from the film section of the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles considering he was nominated for his role in a TV show.

Carrey, recognised in the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy TV Series for his role in Kidding, was jokingly told to vacate the area by Oh and Samberg.

The Canadian actor, in on the skit, said: “You’re kidding, right?” to which Oh replied: “No. But you’re in Kidding which is a TV show, so...”.

As the audience laughed along, Carrey said: “I just finished a film. It’s called Sonic the Hedgehog, It’s out in November.”

Samberg quipped: “Well, come back next year. I’m sure it’ll be nominated.”

As well as hosting, Oh is nominated for her role in TV drama Killing Eve. The evening is awarding the best in film and television with nominees including A Star Is Born, If Beale Street Could Talk and TV shows The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and Homecoming.

The winners so far include Michael Douglas for Netflix show The Kominsky Method and Richard Madden for his role in BBC series Bodyguard.
