His Dark Materials - trailer

An extended trailer for the forthcoming TV adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials has been shared by the BBC and HBO.

The series starring James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Dafne Keen will launch on 3 November in the UK and 4 November in the US.

The new trailer shows Hamilton and Mary Poppins Returns' Lin Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, and the armoured polar bear Iorek Byrnison.

It opens with McAvoy's Lord Asriel speaking about his expedition to the North and his discovery of a myriad of worlds kept secret by the Magisterium, an overbearing religious authority.

Keen stars as young heroine Lyra, who discovers a sinster facility during her Will Parry – the boy who befriends her in Pullman's second book The Subtle Knife – is played by Amir Wilson.

Other cast members include Andrew Scott, Rita Gedmintas, Anne-Marie Duff and Mat Fraser.
