Slack, the chat app for workplaces, has stopped working properly.

Numerous users report that the platform will not send their messages – or is logging them out entirely.

The outage led to a flurry of exasperated tweets from people who were unable to access the service.

Slack's status page indicated there was an issue with the service.

"Some people may be having an issue with Slack," the website reads.

"We’re currently investigating and will have more information shortly. Thank you for your patience."

It posted a similar message to its Twitter account.

"We're receiving reports about issues with messages sending and loading," it wrote.

"Our team is on the case and we'll report back once we have an update to share."

Slack describes itself as a "collaboration hub", which primarily allows people in the same workplace to chat with each other, in addition to other office tools.

It claims to have more than 10 million daily users, and is relied upon by many of the world's biggest companies.
