Suge Knight's son backtracks on 'Tupac is alive' claims

Suge Knight’s son has eased back on controversial claims that rapper Tupac Shakur is still alive.

Suge Jacob Knight Jr, son of the notorious Death Row Records mogul, made multiple claims in since-deleted posts on Instagram in October last year that played into a long-running conspiracy theory that Tupac didn’t really die as the result of gunshot wounds in 1996.

Knight Jr shared a number of comments including “Tupac is alive” and “He never really left us” along with Photoshopped images of Tupac posing with 50 Cent and Beyonce.

He alleged that Tupac is alive, living in Malaysia and recording new music. The 23-year-old also implied that the Illuminati had silenced Tupac and were now chasing him for “saying too much”.

He then doubled down on those outlandish claims in January this year with a post that announced Tupac was “back in the studio” with “new music coming”, claiming: “I need the hottest producer to work on a project for Pac.”

Appearing in a filmed interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Knight Jr has now backtracked on those comments but claimed there would be further clarification to come – conveniently via his new VH1 reality show Love & Listings, which premieres this month.

“When I said it, the whole world stopped moving. Everybody was like, ‘What’s going on?’ I went and got 200,000 followers within two days,” he said. “And I was like, ‘Wow, like this is, this is crazy. Germany’s calling me [to do interviews], and I don’t even speak German!’ So, I don’t even know what to do.

“Pretty much the reason why I did it, there’s a purpose for it, and you actually have to tune into the show to see why. I know people are expecting new music of his too. So, you guys got to tune in.”

Knight Jr’s comments on Instagram drew the ire of thousands of Tupac fans, with many accusing him of being disrespectful to the late rapper’s memory. However, he claimed he meant “no disrespect” and added: “That man’s family is my family. … It’s a real good message why I did it. It’s like, it makes the world reflect on ourselves. … I don’t want to ruin it. It’s an important message. Tupac’s my godfather. That’s all I have to say.”

Knight Jr’s father is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence at San Diego RJ Donovan Correctional Facility for voluntary manslaughter.
