Jimmy Kimmel criticises Trump border wall speech with Stormy Daniels joke

Jimmy Kimmel is one of several late-night hosts who have criticised Donald Trump’s border wall and the ensuing US government shutdown – and one of his latest quips was inspired by the president’s alleged mistress Stormy Daniels.

Kimmel responded to Trump’s Oval Office address regarding the border wall during Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Trump’s speech came on the 18th day of a partial government shutdown as lawmakers and the White House butted heads over Trump’s proposed wall at the border between US and Mexico.

Kimmell made light of the length of Trump’s address, which lasted a little less than 10 minutes.

“His speech was about ten minutes long, which, according to Stormy Daniels, is about eight minutes longer than he usually lasts,” he said, eliciting claps and cheers from the audience.

He appeared to be referring to an April 2018 Vogue interview in which Daniels – real name Stephanie Clifford – said her alleged 2006 tryst with Mr Trump lasted a couple of minutes.

“How many details can you really give about two minutes?” she said.

When pressed about the two-minute statement, Daniels added: “Maybe. I’m being generous.”

Mr Trump has denied having an affair with Daniels.

Michael Cohen, the president's former attorney, was sentenced in December 2018 to three years in prison for tax fraud and for his role in the payment of hush money to Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
