The Big Lebowski - Trailer

The spin-off “sequel” to Coen brothers classic The Big Lebowski has a brand new title and release date.

John Turturro is bringing back his character Jesus Quintana for what was initially titled Going Places, a comedy that begins with him getting out of prison after being framed as a paedophile.

It’s now been revealed that the film will be released under the name The Jesus Rolls in 2020.

It’ll also star Audrey Tatou, Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon, Jon Hamm and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson.

According to Variety, the film follows a trio of misfits whose sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.

After years of reports, Turturro recently told The Independent that he’s completed an edit he’s happy with.

“I had to tweak it a little bit but now I feel really good about it,” he said. “It’s a bit of a racy movie. It shows how stupid men are. That’s what the movie is kinda about – the women are the stronger, more together characters.”

The actor also added that the film, inspired by Bertrand Blier’s 1974 French film of the same name, has been approved by Joel and Ethan Coen.

“They’re my friends, close friends, and were supportive when I said I wanna explore this character more,” he said. “They said, you gotta do it cause we’re not doing it! If I have something to show, I show it to them if they’re around.”

Going Places also stars Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tatou and Susan Sarandon. No other Big Lebowski characters are expected to show up in the film despite Jeff Bridges admitting he’d be up for playing “a little cameo” of The Dude in the future.
