Let's start at Crystal Palace and one of the last deals of deadline day.

Michy Batshuayi, who spent the first half of the campaign at Valencia, was linked with Everton, West Ham, Tottenham and Real Betis at various stages during deadline day but Palace won the race.

Batshuayi, 25, has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge since joining Chelsea for £33million from Marseille in 2016 but remains a highly-regarded forward.

Palace chairman Steve Parish told the club's website: "This is a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace.

"Michy is a player we've long admired, and I'm delighted that we've finally managed to get him in a red and blue shirt. He will be a magnificent addition to our squad."

Another one you may have missed.

Premier League strugglers Fulham made a surprise swoop for forgotten Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic late, late last night.

The Cottagers also managed to offload controversial forward Aboubakar Kamara and sign Norway international Havard Nordtveit on loan.

The move for Markovic, which was announced after the 11pm Thursday deadline passed, was unexpected.

The Serbian has signed on a short-term permanent deal until the end of the season after being released by the Merseysiders.

To Arsenal where the Mirror reveal that the Gunners turned down a chance to sign Malcom on loan yesterday.

Barcelona offered the Brazilian around all window long after struggling for game time since his summer move.

But Unai Emery was apparently uninterested.

Denis Suarez was the club's only signing of the month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been talking about Marouane Fellaini's impending exit from Manchester United.

"Nothing's confirmed there yet, so obviously what I talk to players about would have to be between the two of us.

"We had good discussions, obviously he got injured so we spoke about that, but nothing's confirmed so I can't say more, really."

Solskjaer has also been talking about Anthony Martial's new five-year deal which was signed yesterday.

"It's a confirmation that we are happy with him. We believe in him because he's got fantastic potential," he said at his press conference this morning.

"He's had some ups and downs at the club - he's been top scorer, he's been developing. We believe in him. I certainly believe in him."

To Chelsea where Gary Cahill remains despite interest in his services from across Europe.

The 33-year-old club captain's contract runs out in the summer.

But, according to Sky Sports, he turned down Juventus, Monaco and Fulham yesterday in favour of staying put.

Over to Tottenham where Vincent Janssen also stayed put on deadline day.

It is reported that negotiations between Spurs and Schalke took place yesterday but no deal could be agreed.

The Dutchman hasn't played a top flight game since August 2017.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he told Anthony Martial to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo before the forward signed his new contract with Manchester United.

When asked to explain his input on negotiations with Martial, Solskjaer said he had talked with the France international about imitating United great Ronaldo.

“Well of course I speak about my experience at this club, what he can achieve at this club because I think I can achieve a lot,” Solskjaer said.

“As I have said many times, I’m here to help players, to guide players until the summer.

“I think when you sit him down and talk to him, for example, about Cristiano’s career, what he’s made of his career and how he’s got there and we talk about all the fantastic players with the history they’ve got, I think Anthony just sat down and said: ‘If I can be a part of this I’d like to’.

“I believe and the club believes we have got a top player there,” Solskjaer added.

“I’ve been here for 15 years, coach, player, now manager and I know how much this club can give to your career and what you can give to the club.

“I’m here to help the club and I’m just being honest with him that for me this was the best place to be, I made my career here, it was easy to sell the club to Anthony but he’s been here for many years so he knows what we’re capable of.”

Premier League clubs spent £180 million during the January transfer window but spending fell for the first time since 2012, report football finance experts Deloitte.

That number was slightly decieiving due to almost a third of the total coming from Chelsea, who splashed out £55 million to sign Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund, who will arrive this summer.

This time last year, Premier League clubs forked out £430 million, with Virgil van Dijk for £75 million from Southampton and Aymeric Laporte for £50million from Manchester City the most prominent signings.

January’s business in 2019 appeared to be more about exits, with Brahim Diaz departing Manchester City to Real Madrid for £15.5 million, Mousa Dembele joining Guangzhou R&F from Tottenham for £11 million and Schalke’s surprise £9.6 million move Manchester City’s Rabbi Matondo.

“As we approach a decisive phase of the season, Premier League clubs’ January transfer spending has been relatively muted in comparison to what we have seen in previous years,” said Tim Bridge, director in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte.
