Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6 Preview

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner has spoken about being ”desperately unhappy” growing up in the public eye.

Turner was cast as the character Sansa Stark on the HBO television series when she was 13 years old. Speaking to The Times, the actor spoke about the difficulties she faced becoming an internationally recognised name at such a young age.

“Having your adolescence being displayed in public, that’s something I really wish hadn’t happened,” she said. “Being in the age of social media when that’s happening, I think I would be a much saner person if I hadn’t been documented from 13 – your most awkward, uncomfortable, unsure-of-yourself years.”

Turner told the magazine that she was helped by husband and pop star Joe Jonas, who she met when she was 20.

“I was going through this phase of being very mentally unwell,” she said. ”He was like ‘I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself’.

“That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life in a way.”

Turner also teased the ending of Game of Thrones, saying that the final episode is “very satisfying”, but acknowledged that some fans may be upset.

She made similar comments earlier this year. “Some people will be satisfied, others not so much,” she told 60 minutes. Other cast members have equally said they expect the final season to divide opinion, including Gwendoline Christie, who commented: “There are just too many elements to be able to please everyone. It’s too complex a story.” Read more about what the cast has said about the final episode here.

The Independent‘s critic described the penultimate episode of the show – titled “The Bells” – as being “out-of-tune” and criticised the episode’s writing, asking: “What is the logic here?”
