Five bowlers to watch at the Cricket World Cup

Brilliant centuries from Jos Buttler and Joe Root were not enough to carry England to a record World Cup chase as Pakistan produced a stunning upset at Trent Bridge.

Root's 107 was the first ton of the tournament and Buttler was in irresistible form with 103 in 76 balls but both men fell before the finishing line, with Pakistan closing out a 14-run victory.

A target of 349 invited England to go where no other team had gone before at this level and while their master batsmen were in charge it looked as though they could, should and then would make it two wins from two. Re-live the action in the live blog below

England win toss and chose to field

There's the slightest bit of green on the pitch, however this used wicket will begin to slow as the day progresses. A good toss to win.

England captain Eoin Morgan: "It looks a very good wicket - the dimensions of the ground are smaller than The Oval, so you have to take that into account when posting or chasing a score. We've brought Mark Wood in today for the extra pace. He bowled well and accurately, and with pace, against Pakistan on this ground in the recent one-day series."

Pakistan captain Sarafaraz Ahmed: "I wanted to bowl first. It looks like a good batting pitch so hopefully we can get a good score and defend the target. I think the West Indies game was a one-off problem. We have played five ODIs against England so we know them very well."

Team news

Eoin Morgan calls Mark Wood up to his side in place of Liam Plunkett. Wood's pace will be key as England look to bamboozle Pakistan in the same way that the West Indies did when Jason Holder's men bowled them out for 105 on this pitch just a few days ago.

Pakistan are up against it

All the stats point toward this being a very difficult afternoon for Pakistan. This is a high-scoring pitch where the two highest ODI scores have been set...both by England.

England posted 481/6 against Australia in 2018 and 444/3 against Pakistan here in 2016.

Roy eyeing landmark

Jason Roy needs just eight runs to reach 3000 ODI runs, of the 16 other players to reach this milestone, only Jos Buttler, Kevin Pietersen and Joe Root have a better average and only Buttler has a better strike rate.

The national anthems are done and we're almost away at Trent Bridge!

Chris Woakes will open the bowling.

1.0 Pakistan 9/0 Imam-ul-Haq 1 Fakhar Zaman 8

England begin with three slips, something you rarely see this early or even at all in one-day matches.

Fakhar Zaman then gets the first boundary of the day after Eoin Morgan fails to prevent it zipping through at point. The England captain raises an apologetic hand.

Woakes goes in again and Zaman finds the same gap.

Good start for Pakistan.

2.0 Pakistan 14/0 Imam-ul-Haq 2 Fakhar Zaman 8

Here comes Jofra Archer, who delivers slightly shorter than Chris Woakes. You imagine he will be England's chief short bowler following Pakistan's collapse against West Indies.

It's not been the start he wanted as his second delivery goes for a leg bye.

Things improve as he flashes a ball pitched just out of leg-stump and carries through off-stump. Great delivery.

Four dots end the over.

2.0 Pakistan 14/0 Imam-ul-Haq 2 Fakhar Zaman 8

England have already made more errors in the field in the opening two overs than they did in the whole of the first game against South Africa.

4.0 Pakistan 14/0 Imam-ul-Haq 2 Fakhar Zaman 8

Better from Chris Woakes, who begins with three dot balls. Imam charges for a single at third, but Zaman is not interested and his partner has to scamper back.

Things continue in similar fashion. We're seeing a little bit of seam movement and Woakes completes a maiden over. A good recovery after an expensive first over.
