Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises 'fantastic' defending after draw with Liverpool

Luke Shaw has promised Manchester United supporters that there is plenty more to come from him after his excellent individual display against Liverpool.

Shaw enjoyed one his best afternoons in a United shirt to date on Sunday, expertly shutting down the threat of Mohamed Salah in a goalless draw at Old Trafford.

The left-back was named man-of-the-match for his performance, by both broadcasters and the 60 per cent of United fans in a club online poll.

Shaw endured a difficult time under former manager Jose Mourinho, who publicly criticised his performances and questioned his ability last season.

But since becoming United’s established starting left-back under Mourinho last summer, Shaw has made the position his own and is still blossoming under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Even so, at just 23-years-old, Shaw believes he still has much more to offer.

“I think I've still got another level to come,” he said. “I don't think I am really at my best and I know what I can do when I'm at my best.

“Of course I am happy with how it went today but there's still more to come from me especially and that's me being honest.

"I feel I can do more but the only thing I need to focus on is myself, keeping myself in the right conditions and keep pushing myself every day and trying to become what I want to be."

When asked what he believes he can improve on specifically, Shaw said: “All around but there's a few things in my mind that I know I can do, but I need to do more of it.

Jurgen Klopp says he's not disappointed with Liverpool's draw at Manchester United

“That's something for me and I need to do that myself. Like I said, just keeping working hard and the most important thing in football is to keep enjoying it.

“At the moment, everyone at this club is doing that and it's great to be around."

Shaw agreed that it had been one of his better displays since joining from Southampton as a teenager five years ago.

“Defensively definitely, yeah. But these are the games that you want to try and step up in, you want to try and prove why you're here,” he said.

“You've just got to enjoy it and you've got to take it as it comes. You want to play against the best, you want to test yourself against the best and I want to keep doing that in my career.

“I'm still quite young. There's always room to improve and that's what I want to do, keep improving and see what happens.”

Shaw reserved special praise for the boisterous Old Trafford crowd, who raised the decibel levels for the visit of their historic Merseyside rivals.

“A quick word on the fans, the fans were unbelievable today,” he said. “They were so, so loud and it really helped us as a team.

“We felt that sort of connection and we speak about that after. We all loved the support today and long may that continue as well.”
