Bundesliga side Schalke 04 have offered England left-back Danny Rose an escape from Tottenham Hotspur with a season-long loan offer.

Rose has been on the market all summer after falling out of favour at Tottenham ever since he attempted to force a move to Chelsea or Manchester United last August.

Spurs have been trying to find a buyer for Rose, and have been forced to drop their price all the way down from the £55m to £60m they wanted last summer to half of that.

The club has been seeking to raise funds to spend on new players because of the financial constraints imposed by the new stadium.

Even at a fee between £25m and £30m Spurs could not find a buyer for Rose, who still has three years left on his Tottenham contract.

Everton considered a move for him but then went for Lucas Digne from Barcelona instead.

That is why a foreign move for Rose has become the most likely solution to his issue with Tottenham. There was long standing interest in him from Paris Saint Germain and Inter Milan from last year but this month Schalke have moved to the front of the queue.

Schalke can offer Champions League group stage football and also feature Rose’s former Spurs team-mate Nabil Bentaleb. No deal has been agreed yet but because it is a loan to a foreign club, it does not need to happen by 5pm this afternoon and could happen later on this month.

If Rose went then Kyle Walker-Peters would be promoted to Spurs’ back-up left back.
